The way patients access the services available at North Cardiff Medical Centre and across NHS Wales has changed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
This video explains the changes and how patients requests may be redirected to a more suitable service.
Appointments system status
Update 05/05/2021 - Minor Surgery, Joint Injections and IUCD appointments
In view of the current Covid-19 climate we are not planning the re-introduction of these services at the moment. This is being reviewed regularly. As soon as we are able to provide these services we will provide an update on our website.
PLEASE NOTE - during the current COVID-19 Pandemic North Cardiff Medical Centre is running a restricted appointment service.
At the present time advanced appointments, online appointments and online telephone consultation requests are UNAVAILABLE.
We are currently only offering ON THE DAY appointments (these include GP and Nurse appointments). We have some future availability of Phlebotomy (blood) appointments. These are available by calling the surgery on our main telephone number.
Alternatively you can submit an e-consult which will normally be reviewed, with a response sent within 24 hours.

We are continuously monitoring our appointment systems with the aim of improving access to all of our clinical team. Our appointment procedure is as follows.
Booking routine appointments - phone us between 08:00 - 12:45 and 13:15 - 18:00
We are currently only able to offer ON THE DAY appointments. Due to the current pandemic we are not able to offer future appointments. To book a routine appointment simply call us on 029 2076 4444 between the above times. We will assist you with your appointment date, time and clinician choice. Please note, we do not offer pre-bookable appointments on a Monday. Appointments on a Monday are bookable on the day only. We are aware that continuity of care is important to all and we will assist you with an appropriate alternative clinical team member should your clinician of choice be unavailable. Patients are reminded that appointments are 10 minutes long.
Routine surgery will be closed between 12:45 - 13:15 and 18:00 - 18:30. If you have an urgent issue during this time please call us on 029 2076 4444 where you will be given an alternative number to call.
Acute/Non routine appointments - Phone us between 08:00 - 10:30
These will be available on the day and will be booked with the duty team of Nurse Practitioners and GP's. Patients will be asked the nature of their problem to enable the clinical team to deal with the most urgent cases first. If you require a non-routine appointment after 10:30 your enquiry will assessed over the telephone by the duty team. Alternatively you can call us back the following day between 08:00 - 10:30 for a non-routine appointment.
During Surgery Hours please call 029 2076 4444
After taking brief details the receptionist will contact the duty doctor. If appropriate and it’s medically possible for you to attend surgery, you will be given an appointment by the doctor.
Should there be any delay or difficulty in contacting the surgery and the patient is unconscious, suffering heavy blood loss, severe breathlessness or chest pain you should dial 999 and request an ambulance.
Telephone Consultations are available every day and are an effective way of ensuring you have access to clinicians without having to attend surgery. Telephone consultations are appropriate for:
- minor ailments
- medication reviews
- sickness certification
We have a highly qualified team of medical professionals. This includes a number of salaried GP's who are permanent members of the medical team plus experienced and skilled nurses, (including two Nurse Practitioners) who have an enhanced role and can prescribe medication.
Our reception team are trained to ask for details of your medical problem to ensure an appointment is made with the most appropriate clinician. Please contact reception to arrange an appointment.
House calls are recognized as an important aspect of modern general practice in the UK. Requests for house calls will be assessed by the clinical team and should a visit be considered appropriate then a member of the team (Dr, District Nurse, Midwife or Health Visitor) will visit.
Please phone, using the main surgery number, before 12.00pm on the day you require the house call.
Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the Health Centre.
Do you need to see the doctor today?

North Cardiff Medical Centre is a training Practice. Registrars are medically qualified and many have a great deal of hospital experience. Their training in the Practice is centred on the role of the General Practitioner.
They are available for consultations in exactly the same way as the other doctors in the practice. On occasions patients may be asked for their permission to video record their consultation. Video recording will only be undertaken with patients' consent and the camera will be switched off on request.
Cancellations & Reminders
Cancel an Appointment
It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.
You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance. (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.
Late For Your Appointment
Given the demands on doctors' and nurses' time, we cannot guarantee you will be seen if you arrive beyond the appointed time. If you are more than 10 minutes late for an appointment, you will be asked to re-book.
If you require an interpreter to attend with you when you see your Doctor please notify the receptionist and she will arrange this for you.
Text Reminder Service
We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.
To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.
